Description

Fort Pickering Light near Salem, Massachusetts, at sunset – digital painting made from a photo where I made some small edits and I added painting texture. Constructed in 1871 and decommissioned in 1969, Fort Pickering Light, or Winter Island Light, is a maritime relic. The cast-iron tower, once brown or red, retains its historic charm. Originally linked to Winter Island by a walkway, the tower, standing just offshore, showcased a fifth-order Fresnel lens, flashing a white light 28 feet above sea level. Among the era's cast-iron structures, it remains a small yet crucial sentinel of maritime history.
