Description
St Michael's Church (Romanian: Biserica Sfântul Mihail, Hungarian: Szent Mihály-templom, German: Michaelskirche) interior, Cluj-Napoca, Romania – black and white photo. The St. Michael's Church, is a prominent Gothic monument in Transylvania, Romania. Located in the city center of Cluj-Napoca, it is one of the most impressive buildings in the country, measuring 70 meters in length and 80 meters in height. The church has a rich history, having served as a Protestant, Lutheran, Calvinist, and Unitarian place of worship before being returned to the Catholic community.
The altar of the church is a notable feature, with a neogothic design created by the master carpenter Lajos Back. The altar is adorned with sculptures of the Virgin Mary, St. Stephen, and St. Ladislaus. Although many of the church's original frescoes have been lost over time, some have been restored to their former glory, including paintings from the 15th century. The church's architecture and decorative elements, including its towers, vaulted ceiling, and stained-glass windows, showcase its grandeur and historical significance.
