Description
The hands detail from the creation of Adam by Michelangelo - cubist painting made from the original painting Creazione di Adamo by Michelangelo Buonarroti. Two hands stretch toward one another, their fingertips nearly meeting at the center. The forms are broken into angular planes, giving the figures a faceted, geometric structure. The background echoes this fragmentation, radiating outward in sharp shapes that frame the suspended gesture. Despite the abstraction, the tension between the hands remains clear and emotionally charged. The piece blends a sacred reference with a modern visual language built on structure and rhythm.
The Creation of Adam (Creazione di Adamo) is a renowned fresco painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512 on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The scene illustrates the passage from Genesis in which God brings Adam, the first man, to life. God reaches toward Adam, their fingertips nearly touching, capturing the charged pause just before life is transferred.
This image forms part of the broader ceiling program and is the fourth panel in the sequence of Genesis scenes. Over the centuries, it has become one of the most recognizable works of religious art, repeatedly reproduced, reinterpreted, and parodied in both academic contexts and popular culture.
