Portraits of Leonardo da Vinci - digital recreation where I merged the portrait of Leonardo da Vinci by Francesco de Melzi (1491–1570) with his self-portrait. Francesco Melzi was an Italian Renaissance painter, pupil and heir of Leonardo da Vinci. Francesco Melzi's career is inextricably linked to Leonardo da Vinci, and this could be a reason that he is not well-known, because his master overshadowed him. The portrait of a man in red chalk (c. 1510) by Leonardo da Vinci (1452 – 1519) is widely, though not universally, accepted as his self-portrait. It is thought that Leonardo da Vinci drew this self-portrait at about the age of 60. The portrait has been extensively reproduced and has become an iconic representation of Leonardo as a polymath or "Renaissance Man".
