Artist's Description
Medusa by Caravaggio in the style of the Great Wave off Kanagawa - digital recreation where I merged the Medusa by Caravaggio with the style of The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai. Medusa was created by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio in 1597 and is located in the Uffizi Museum in Florence. The painting is depicting the exact moment she was executed by Perseus. Medusa is a monster described as a female woman with bronze hands and golden wings who had countless venomous snakes on her head in place of her own hair. In his painting, Caravaggio depicts a self-portrait of his own face in the place of Medusa's. The Great Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave or The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. Created in 1831, it is Hokusai's most famous work and is often considered the most recognizable work of Japanese art in the world.
